Following the successful installation of a high capacity long haul 91km over water link in the Outer Hebrides RAFT Systems were awarded a contract to supply two further over water links connecting remote radar sites. The links, one at 76km and one at 46km, employed a mix of space, frequency and hybrid diversity, delivering TDM and Ethernet traffic using Ceragon XPAND-IP microwave radios and RAD Megaplex multiplexers, including 1 + 1 protection for the TDM circuits.
Adaptive Coded Modulation (ACM) and Adaptive Bandwidth Control (ABC) were used to maximise performance and to provide protection. The links were designed to deliver the target bandwidth and availability at 16QAM in a single RF channel. Performance exceeded expectations with 256QAM consistently achieved.
The project was delivered in two phases with RAFT Systems also acting as CDM Principal Contractor.
RAFT Systems were responsible for the system design, supply, installation and commissioning of all the network elements. This now extends to training and continuing maintenance support.
